Condition 1: Spondylolisthesis

1Sml.gif        Spondylolisthesis affects 6% of the population. This usually occurs at the fifth (5th) Lumbar level; a "stress" fracture allows the vertebra to slip forward upon the sacrum below. This results in irritation to the nerve and disc. This condition usually responds well to conservative chiropractic care.

Condition 2: Degenerated Disk

2sml.gif        The loss of disc height is called disc degeneration, while the misalignment of the facet articulations is called a subluxation. Note the spurs emerging from the front & back of the vertebra; These can cause nerve root irritation.

  Treatment

Must be directed toward relieving the disc narrowing & the subluxation. See example to left

Condition 4: Facet Syndrome

4sml.gif        The disc space is narrowed at the back of the verebra, causing the facet joints to be out of alignment. This causes compression of the spinal nerve root, as well as irritation of the facet & disc.

Treatment
We open the nerve openings, increase the disc space & realing the facet joints to relieve the pain. See example to right.

Condition 5: Subluxation

5sml.gif        The vertebra is out of alignment and tilted to the right. This results in irritation of the soft tissues & nerves at this level & could cause low back and even leg pain as well.

Condition 8: Transitional Vertebra

8sml.gif        Transitional vertebra is a common congenital anomaly found in 6% of the population. In it there are either 4 or 6 lumbar vertebra instead of the normal number of 5. This causes instability & stress in the low back. Research shows that this condition is more difficult to treat & requires more long term care.

Condition 9: Scoliosis

9sml.gif        A deviation of spinal curvature. It occurs in girls 8 times more often than boys, and is hereditary.

Condition 11: Low Back & Leg Pain

11sml.gif        Low back pain affects one out of every 3 Americans. Pain in the leg is called sciatica & may occur in the buttocks, thigh, calf or foot. The sciatic nerve is the longest & largest nerve in the body.

Condition 13: Bulged Disc (Slipped Disc)

13sml.gif        The disc consists of rings of fibers which surround & contain a mass of gel-like fluid called the nucleus-pulposis. The vertebra above balances over this mass of fluid & depends upon it to allow the spine to be moveable. Mis-alignment of vertebra can cause this nucleus to shift, putting pressure against the sciatic nerve roots. This can result in back pain & pain down the leg.
